Based on a true anecdote from the life of Shostakovich and featuring the evocative music of his 8th String Quartet, Shostakovich, Or 3 Days In Red, is a silent drama for a quartet of actors – 3 men who play the Husband and 1 woman who plays the Wife.
Through movement, gesture and stillness, Shostakovich, Or 3 Days In Red, stages the fear, anxiety and oppression of Stalinist Russia in a tiny, claustrophobic apartment. The clock ticks, counting down the moments till the Husband’s imminent departure. His tiny suitcase packed by his faithful wife sits ready by the door.
